Alex Pariss, born in 1983 in Essonne (91), is a contemporary multidisciplinary artist who explores the boundaries between painting, graphics and plastic art. His influences were forged through multiple observations which have guided him for several years towards Optical and Kinetic Arts.
His concepts are distinguished by a proliferation of shapes and lines that he interweaves with fractal and psychedelic figures, playing with the movement that these associations provoke to execute various projects. His supports and mediums vary and confront all the spectator's gaze with abstract or figurative optical illusions, forcing the eye to decipher the shapes and to doubt its perception. These
"Optical Games" are the result of his interest in design and graphic design, which he sublimates in unlikely places. From then on, space is based on the context and the scale of the dimensions he exploits.
Recently, Alex Pariss has also developed an interest in the recovery of everyday materials as artistic mediums, allowing him to reinvent their use in a world dominated by mass consumption. These omnipresent and often devalued materials become poetic and meaningful for him. He plays on contrasts, just like black and white in his paintings, between lightness and solidity, fragility and permanence, letting their industrial nature shine through and celebrating the raw craftsmanship of the material.
Beyond the aesthetic aspect, his practice has a critical scope. The artist confronts us with the proliferation of these objects, their omnipresence in our lives, their ecological consequences, the imprint that humanity leaves on this planet. By recycling and repurposing these elements, he invites us to reconsider our relationship with these materials that have become symbols of our time. Deliberately minimalist and contemporary, Alex Pariss develops a sharp, raw, and singular style, transforming the banal into an artistic medium through which the complexity of the economic, environmental, and aesthetic issues of our time shines through.
