Created especially for the thematic group exhibition "Queens" at GoGallery Amsterdam in summer 2022, this wall tapestry is now available to all Madonna fans who want to boldly and decoratively express their love for the icon in their home.
Unique piece, hand tufted, with a sturdy, custom-sewn hanging system, allowing you to choose the orientation of the work and easily modify it, at will.
3 Colors: 100% acrylic yarn in black, neon green and neon pink, reacts to UV light.
Finished with a protective beige canvas back panel and stamped.
This rug is the first that Anna has entirely designed and made from A to Z.
His choice naturally fell on neon thread because, at the time, his mastery of tufting did not yet allow him to directly integrate light—a central element of his inspiration and his artistic practice—at the heart of his textile works.
Invited to participate in the exhibition "Queens", the inspiration flowed naturally, leading her to this representation of the Diva of Pop, Madonna, in the form of a geometric and neon Queen of Hearts, like a playing card. A way for her to capture the essence of her childhood memories, growing up to the sound of the singer in the 80s, and to merge them with her iconic portrait art.
We are struck and charmed by the visual force of this rug—exuding a double dose of Madonna's rebellious and subversive spirit.
We hope that you too will be transported by its energy and that you will give the Queen of Neon & Pop a special place in your interior.
Anna Gawecka is a Polish visual artist currently residing in Amsterdam.
Practising light painting since 2014, she began exploring hand-tufting alongside other fabric-based techniques in 2021 as a new path for her artistic expression. She soon found it ignited her joy and creativity, challenging her to translate the essence of her light painting into a tactile form—blending movement, shapes, and reflections of light with the rich textures of wool and thread.
Anna focuses her craft on using only rescued yarn—either from unravelled sweaters lovingly sent by her mum or surplus wool she discovers through friends, donations, or unexpected finds. This approach allows her to connect her creations more deeply with her sensitivity to nature, in every shape and form, the very source of her inspiration.
