El escultor español López del Espino ha sido galardonado con la Medalla de Oro de las Bellas Artes por la Academia de Artes, Ciencias y Letras de París, es un premio a su trayectoria que viene a ensanchar aún más su proyección internacional. Este mismo galardón le fue concedido también en 2016, siendo en esa ocasión la Medalla de Plata al Mérito de las Bellas Artes.
El artista andaluz inicia su carrera realizando imágenes religiosas, la influencia de la tradición artística de su tierra natal se ve representada en ellas enriqueciendo e inspirando sus obras para ir adentrándose y expandiéndose en el campo de la escultura contemporánea a través del estudio, la reflexión, el esfuerzo y las ganas de querer utilizar distintas narrativas a la hora de expresarse como artista.
En constante evolución, estudiando a los grandes maestros clásicos hasta los vanguardistas, los maestros expresionistas o futuristas, a los que le debe la comprensión de la esencia del lenguaje plástico, lo que le abrió las puertas del entendimiento artístico de la abstracción y la geometría.
Ha trabajado para gran parte del territorio nacional además de estar trabajando actualmente en proyectos para EEUU, Rep. Dominicana, Francia, Abu Dabi y México. Y con exposiciones de obra contemporánea en ciudades como Barcelona, Madrid, París, Mónaco o Zúrich.
En 2022 el Real Monasterio de Santa María de Guadalupe, patrimonio de la Humanidad por la Unesco, adquiere la obra de San Jerónimo Penitente que formará parte su museo privado y compartirá espacio con obras de artistas como Zurbarán, El Greco, Goya, Pedro de Mena, Martínez Montañés o Juan de Flandes.
Es digno de mención tener una escultura de San Juan Pablo II realizada para el Vaticano y que ésta fuese bendecida por el Papa Fco. I.
Su participación en los Premios Reina Sofía en 2021 fue muy satisfactoria, su obra “Woman bag” quedó finalista, siendo una de las más aclamadas por el jurado.
Por otro lado, tiene el honor de ser Consejero de Número del Real Instituto de Estudios Históricos Políticos de Ciencias y Artes Alfonso XIII y Miembro adscrito del Consejo General de las Reales Academias e Institutos de España. Se suman a estos reconocimientos el Premio Artes Plásticas 2022 otorgado por el jurado de los Premios José María Toro Sánchez a la Cultura, Córdoba.
