This striking artwork, clearly influenced by Cubism, immediately captures the attention with its bold approach to form and colour. The artist manipulates contours and perspectives to create a distorted human face, borrowing the angular and disjointed characteristics of the Cubist movement. The pale yellow background contrasts sharply with the darker tones used on the face, accentuating the asymmetrical and geometric features. A notable element is the treatment of the eyes: one is enlarged, surrounded by what appears to be a pair of glasses, while the other is stylised with sharp angles, evoking a disconcerting perception of reality. The sharp angles and dynamic lines, such as those crossing the face, evoke a palpable, almost electric energy and tension, symbolised by the lightning-shaped mark on the cheek. The mouth, exaggeratedly stretched and angular, frames a cylindrical object - perhaps a pipe - that appears to be smoking, signified by two volutes of bright color. This detail, tinged with irony, brings a note of modernity and nonchalance to a composition that, contrary to appearances, is finely balanced. The bold use of bright colors, such as yellow, purple and blue, accentuates the raw emotion and individuality of the face, while offering a subtle critique of traditional aesthetic conventions. In short, this painting is a bold exploration of human expression, transformed and reinvented through a Cubist prism.
