Handmade acaba paper.

This subtle piece has been created at Dieu Donné in New York City, a non-profit studio for handmade paper art.

DD3.15 is handmade abaca paper, which is a very thin and delicate paper.

Feinberg's original intention was to make paper to paint on, but then changed her mind after seeing the dried and pressed pieces. During the papermaking process it is difficult to know ahead of time what the final results will look like.

Seeing those results, she embraced the accidents, markings, and textures as needing nothing more than to be assembled.

Presentation

Jean Feinberg is an American abstract painter who uses painting, wood, canvas and paper to explore the mixture between a painting and an object. By using reclycled wood, she constructs paintings that have sculptural qualities, blurring the lines between the 2D and the 3D représentations. She lives and works in New York . Jean Feinberg obtained a Barchelors Degree in Fine Arts from the Skidmore College, in the North of the state of New York and then obtained a masters degree in art and painting at the Hunter College. Feinberg has taught at the Parsons School of Design, in Princeton, at the Institute of Art of Chicago and at the School of Design of Rhode Island, among others. She currently teaches drawing and painting at the Fashion Institute of Technology of New York.

Feinberg works with a variety of techniques and mediums, including painting, paper collage and installations. The major part of his work comprises the application of paint, gesso, canvas and other materials on recycled wood. Tihs process gives birth to abstract paintings, sometimes called constructions, which use geometric abstractions and colored motifs to explore the relationship between color, material and space. Her works defies the points of objective reference, evoking mostly the meditative qualities and facilitationg the emotional explorations.

Jeanette Fintz, an abstract painter and art writer, has written about the work of Feinberg for the Artful Mind; " The minimalist, rustic constructions of multiple sutile shades of Feinberg are in harmony with the abstract canvases that she has exhibited all along her career. Her geometric style deliberate but thoughtful, has always been inundated of planar colors... her sensibility to light, shapes and lines transforms..."

The criticism of Feinberg's work has been made in several famous art publications, including Artforum, Artnews, Art International and the New York Times. Feinberg has obtained several residencies at the MacDowell Colony in New Hampshire, the oldest colony of Artists in the United States.
Feinberg's work have been part of diverse public and private collections in the United States. Her work is collected by art collector and philantropist Werner Kramarsky and are also included in the collection of the Weatherspoon Art Gallery at the University of North Carolina in Greensboro. She has exclusively exhibited her work all throughout America, mainly on the east coast of the United States in diverse solo and group exhibitions.
