Camino de la cueva santa - 2016

Valérie Abadie was living in Spain, in the heights of Marbella, when she made this drawing.
Regularly she went on foot to walk her dogs and took a path called "Camino de la cueva santa" (path to the holy cave).

This path led them to a half-dried stream, bordered by enormous stones and astonishing vegetation.
After walking in the sun, this place was like a gift from the gods, a little paradise.
While his bitches bathed and let off steam , the artist soaked up the places, observed the trickling of water, the cascade of stones above the stream, the flowering plants full of life of this arid environment.

Everything seemed unreal, in this place that contained in him something magical.

Going back to her house, she was passing again, in front of the cactus, the dead tree above the void and front of the imposing plants which all seemed to greet her on her way, as if they were persons ...

The artist was undertook one day to draw on his terrace without knowing what would be the subject of his work, and this place then reappeared on the sheet ...
The mountain changed into a giant snake which slid towards the stream, in search of the coolness of the water, the rocks asleep under the sun, became characters and animals, comforting the doubt and the sadness of the human being.

Valérie Abadie, reproduced on her sheet everything she had observed ...
The heat, the trickling of water, the olive trees, the stones with human or animal forms, but also the absence, the solitude and the spirituality of this obligatory stage on the way towards the holy cave.
The world had to know this place ....

The work presents a correction, operated using a tiny patch of paper redrawn by the artist and pasted on the drawing, at the level of the female face in the top left, visible during the amplification of the image .

Signed with the pseudonym Valoushka, like the majority of the drawings made by the artist from 2016 to 2018 included.

Presentation

Valérie Abadie is a self-taught French artist.

She has been drawing since adolescence and has always shown a marked attraction for monochrome and automatic drawing.

Having started drawing with an ink pen, then with a ballpoint pen, his current tool is the pigmented ink marker called Fine Liner.

His favorite subjects are portraits, life scenes and the fantastic.

His personal way of approaching ink drawing may be reminiscent of the discipline of printmaking.

Although many of her drawings are inspired by real events, she inevitably swings into the imagination during her creations.

One could say that his works present us with "a false realism", the realistic aspect of the work being often accompanied by completely unreal details.

Journey

It was not until 2016 that Valérie Abadie decided to devote herself more to drawing.

She first obtained a distinction for three of her achievements, during the France competition of the Social Network Art Competition in San Francisco in 2016.

After a few local exhibitions, in 2017 and 2018, she began to participate in the Salon du Dessin et Peinture à l'eau de Art Capital as well as the Salon d'Automne in Paris in 2019 and 2020. She also participated in a group exhibition in a Barbizon Gallery.

She became a member of the Taylor Foundation in December 2019.

She is selected to participate in the London Art Biennale as well as the Centenary Exhibition Unlocked of the Graphic Society of Fine Art in London in June and July 2021.

She is also named in the "shortlist" of the Trinity Buoy Wharf Drawing Prize 2021 in London.
