SEQUOIA is a compelling fusion of nature and modern materials, transforming raw organic inspiration into a refined, abstract expression. The artwork consists of long vertical panels that resemble tree trunks, evoking the natural beauty of California sequoia trees. The use of acrylic and resin mimics the depth and complexity of natural wood next to the natural varnished maple on its sides. The steel bases give it a sleek contemporary presentation while allowing the panels to rotate. This work captures both the grandeur and fragility of nature, encouraging contemplation on scale, time, and perspective. They have a rich, warm color palette dominated by shades of amber, orange, deep reds, and blacks, resembling wood grain or a sunset through a dense California forest. The central dark band running horizontally across the panels creates a visual anchor, giving the illusion of depth or a horizon line.
Sequoia is free-standing, two-sided, three dimensional painting consisting of acrylic, oil, resin, canvas on individual rotating maple panels mounted on steel bases. The first image is an installation of 18 free-standing pieces of the same series. Each one is unique but created to work alongside companion pieces in a manner that is fluid and gives the work a sense of motion. The three additional images are views of the same work shown from three different angles.
As a cinematographer, Tabori was challenged with the task of taking three-dimensional subjects and depicting them in a life-like way on the two-dimensional surface of the movie screen. This was done with the careful use of light, shadows and of course, optics. He now utilizes these same techniques on Sequoia, working with color and resin on flat surface. The results place the observer more into the work rather than just seeing it from a distance. He increased this effect by removing the work from the wall itself, and then painting and adding resin to free standing, two-sided, rotating panels that protrude into the space around it, thereby achieving an actual third dimension. Not just flat painting and not quite sculpture, the results allow the observer to be incorporated into the center of the work itself, intensifying the encounter, while creating a constantly changing experience.
The price is for each individual piece. These resin works must be crated for shipment therefore shipping costs will vary. Several may be crated together.

Michel Tabori, born in Paris in 1956 and raised in New York, is a French-American artist renowned for his innovative visual artistry. He is based in Paris, Marbella and Venice Beach. Before transitioning to the art world, Tabori spent over three decades working globally as a director, producer, writer, and cinematographer. This extensive experience in film and television profoundly influences his current artistic endeavors.
Tabori's work often begins as studies of nature, experienced directly or through reflections of the subject's surroundings. He seeks to create a feeling of motion through nature, in a way precluded by casual, stationary observation.
Tabori's artistic journey reflects a seamless integration of his cinematic background with his passion for visual art, resulting in works that invite viewers to experience nature and motion from a unique perspective. His early work came about while driving through densely wooded, western forests at high speed on a Harley Davidson. Endless configurations of passing multi-shaped greens, reds, oranges, yellows and blues of varying shades and tones, along with constantly changing, misty shadows and rainy reflections merged with intense rays of California sunlight or bright beams of penetrating moonlight. The higher the speed, the more motion there is to see and feel, the more powerful the experience becomes. More recently, he incorporated these same techniques while travelling through the south of France, particularly in Provence. Conveying this in his paintings, they become a representation of the interplay of all these components.
Tabori's artistic journey led him back to Europe five years ago, where he immersed himself in the atmospheric light that inspired the Impressionists. This shift influenced his exploration of erotic themes, drawing inspiration from ancient Greek mythology, Spanish Flamenco, and the French concept of "rêve d'amour". His works are abstract, poetic reactions to personal experiences, delving into notions of love, eroticism, identity, and gender fluidity.
