The Wave, The Flame. By Rachel Daireaux, a work with two titles (already unusual). "The Wave, The Flame" Apparent paradox like life, like death. This work inscribes, in watermark, the dramatic event which marked the whole world, the death of little Aylan. Rachel Daireaux, through this magnificent achievement, does not take us by surprise because her previous works let us glimpse her deep sensitivity, her attentive and tormented spirit, her authenticity, her oblativity and her heart filled with humanity. Rachel Daireaux works, applies herself and details while not contradicting Hegel, who affirms that: “Art is what reveals truth to consciousness in a sensitive form”. She begins her canvas by lacerating it with pencil strokes like so many blows to the heart and entrails for those who know (or not) motherhood. What to do with the crack carrying a fracture, a tear!!! Rachel Daireaux affixes a martyr supported by the Madonna. Angels sprinkle gold dust and rain hearts to protect migrants. “We find everything in our memory. It is a kind of pharmacy, a chemical laboratory, where you put your hand at random, sometimes on a calming drug, sometimes on a dangerous poison” Marcel Proust (La Prisonnière). Here we are. A vertical work underlying the elevation but also the chaos, the forced escape. As close as possible to the work, predominantly blue sepulchre, deep tomb, dark with mystery teased here and there with anthracite gray and black bitumen, perhaps symbols of the anguish of the failure of a human society inhuman. We even see black and white stripes of convict outfits, bars, prison universe. At first sight, carried away by the wave, a central form, an organic form, the form of a vital organ (heart? lung?)... a wave like the one that deposited the confiscated life of an innocent man lying on the leash of a shore… A crowd of migrants in makeshift boats, a frequent problem that always makes the headlines… After the Wave, the Flame brings hope, love, memory. For some, it is with pen strokes, for others it is with pencil strokes, or brush strokes that one expresses one's legitimate revolt in the face of the unnameable, the unspeakable, the ineffable... There is, I find, in this production a little something of the paintings of the night of the Romantics, a hint of the raft of the Medusa, a zest of Dante's boat, a dust of Merleau-Ponty with "an urgency that passes all urgency”, a dizziness of a hint of vertigo à la Cioran. The recurrence of inspiration is like the conspiracy of those responsible for dramas, immense. Death is omnipresent with malicious and evil people like the one-eyed and one-toothed witches who watched over the accomplishment of evil. However, randomly during the navigation, according to the waves, on the flaps of the blades, some fish emerge on the surface (awareness? from the unconscious to the conscious?) and this, by interposed artist. Given this talent and the commitment displayed, who will still dare to say that the artist is irremediably doomed to marginality?" Francine Ohayon
