Artwork location: Greece

"Spring" A unique handmade original acrylic painting featuring an abstract summer landscape, in lilac, turquoise, purple and blue colors with a highly textured surface and gold details. A deep light accompanies the vision of the work, where the cool and warm environment at the same time, tells about Greece and the crystalline water that surrounds its lands. Blue, purple and gold spread across the canvas, blending delicately into one another, while the dense colour splits in places, making the surface irregular and fascinating.

Presentation

Artist Statement:

Through my artworks I want to convey the message that there is beauty in every aspect of imperfection. My paintings are about transience and the beauty and authenticity of age.

My work narrates "once upon a time there was…" a worn out wall with peeling paint, peeling wallpaper or torn posters of past performances, an old door, an abandoned ship in the ship graveyard that rusts helplessly... Materials that were once closely associated with people, that accommodated lives, that allowed dreams to travel, that achieved goals.

In my works, Time operates as an equal artist. Time, with its many layers, aged, rusted, and apparent worthlessness, creates the substance for the material that will be sculpted, eliminated or accented, so that the true image to be expressed is revealed.

Education:

I have studied painting for 6 years in "Corfu Art School" under the tutorship of M. Pieris, a renowned Greek painter.
I also hold an MSc in Work Psychology (UCL), a Diploma in Educational Psychology (UCL) and a degree in Psychology (NKUA).

Artistic Influences:

My paintings are highly textured, they have rough, uneven surfaces and crackled areas. I often incorporate into them pieces of old wallpaper, aged fabric, ripped paper, vintage maps and found objects.
I am intrigued by the rough surface of natural stones, the beautiful colors of patina on vintage objects and the sophistication of old, weathered walls with decaying finishes, where layers of paint peel away to reveal older paint underneath, creating a beautiful contrast between the lighter and darker tones.
