Artwork location: Nigeria

Aba Linus's "The More I See" presents a visually striking portrayal of a young boy in a contemplative state. The artist skillfully captures the nuances of human vulnerability, utilizing subtle shading and delicate brushwork to evoke a sense of introspection. The positioning of the boy's hands, which almost cover his face, suggests a desire to shield oneself from the outside world, while simultaneously signaling a yearning to discover the truth within.

The central theme of "The More I See" lies in the exploration of inner turmoil and the relentless pursuit of self-discovery. The boy's facial expression reveals a complex array of emotions—hesitation, curiosity, and a hint of melancholy. It is as if he is caught between the fear of exposing his vulnerabilities and the desire to unravel the mysteries of his own identity. The artwork resonates with viewers, reminding them of their own personal journeys of self-exploration and the challenges encountered along the way.

The hands covering the boy's face serve as powerful symbols within the composition. They represent both protection and inhibition—a physical barrier shielding the boy from external judgment and scrutiny, yet also concealing his true self. The partially visible face suggests that self-discovery is an ongoing process, with layers slowly being revealed over time. This symbolism invites viewers to reflect on their own barriers and the courage required to confront their innermost truths.

Aba Linus skillfully employs a combination of light and shadow to heighten the emotional impact of the artwork. The interplay between the illuminated areas and the darker regions conveys the complexity of the human experience. It symbolizes the inherent struggles faced in navigating the path to self-awareness, as well as the profound insights that can be gained through moments of vulnerability.

"The More I See" by Aba Linus stands as a powerful testament to the introspective nature of art and its ability to connect individuals on a deeply emotional level. Through the depiction of a young boy with his hands almost covering his face, the artwork prompts viewers to contemplate their own journey of self-discovery. It serves as a reminder that vulnerability and self-reflection are integral to the human experience, offering opportunities for growth, understanding, and ultimately, a profound connection with oneself and others. "The More I See" invites us to embrace our vulnerabilities and embark on a journey of self-exploration, for it is through this process that we can uncover our truest selves.
