An ode to the port city of Sète and its canals, this diptych on wood (imagined and painted from NYC), is a captivating explosion of colors and shapes, representing an urban and maritime landscape in a totally unique way. The composition is split into two distinct halves. On the left, we have a vibrant and bustling city, full of brightly colored buildings and varied geometric shapes. The sloping roofs and detailed facades create a sense of movement and dynamics, as if the city were brimming with activity. On the right, an underwater world opens up to us, contrasting with the terrestrial city. Underwater vehicles and various aquatic creatures occupy this space, forming a fascinating marine mosaic. The fish and marine figures, depicted with bold patterns and bold tones of blue, purple, and red, emerge from a deep blue background, creating a mysterious and captivating atmosphere. The central element of this work is undoubtedly the transition zone where land and sea meet. Boats of varying sizes appear to float between these two worlds, connecting the vibrant cityscape with the serene waters. The intricate details on the boats, combined with decorative elements, add further complexity to the work, capturing the viewer's eye and imagination. This painting does not simply juxtapose two worlds; it integrates them cohesively and harmoniously. The vibrant colors and bold shapes create a sense of joy and vitality, while the intricate details invite deeper exploration. This work is a visual celebration of the harmonious coexistence between land and sea elements, an addictive blend of energy and tranquility, a visual symphony that attracts and enchants with every glance.

Mike JACOBS was born on August 2, 1950 in New York City (USA), where he grew up and currently resides.
Born and raised in an urban environment, he started drawing in his early twentieth year after a friend gave him a Rapidograph pen.
“When I was studying art in high school, it didn't really speak to me, but this Rapidograph opened a door. It felt like an extension of my hand,… and I started to draw, letting the pen guide me. "
Self-taught artist, he then builds his style through his trial and error, drawing inspiration from the artists he appreciates the most: Picasso, Miro, Leger, Stuart Davis, Chagall, Richard Lindner, Kandinsky ;
“I think that I share with these artists a primitive bond, made of enthusiasm, spontaneity, and desire for colors, with, above all, the pleasure of creating; because luckily for me, I have been able to draw like a child since I was 20 years old. "
His style flourishes and asserts itself as his experiments with colors, shapes and composition evolve.
His creative imagination is inspired by current events (scenes from the world of music, sport, nature, personal concerns, international events ...), which his style frees from all academic constraints, first resurfacing a liberated expression. born from his subconscious, before his work was restructured in a perfect balance of chromatic and graphic composition.
His current materials incorporate colored pencils, gel pens and acrylic paint markers on a black cotton board, which brings out the bright contrasts and graphics of the composition.
Perfectly in line with the Free Figuration movement, Mike JACOBS is now represented permanently and exclusively in Europe by the Galerie Plurielle in Sète.
