Presentation
Joana Antunes, born on March 14, 1979, in Amarante. From a young age, she was exposed to the world of arts, particularly through drawing, painting, and ceramics, which influenced her decision to pursue a career in visual arts. In the 1990s, she participated in regional art circuits, where her work began to be exhibited and acquired by private collectors. Over time, Joana gained recognition, and her exhibitions started to gain more prominence, both in group shows alongside major national and international artists and in solo exhibitions across Portugal.
Joana's talent transcended Portugal's borders, she was included in several group exhibitions in art galleries in Rome. In addition to Italy, the artist has been consolidating her presence in France and England, countries where she has developed and presented her work in recent years.
Currently, Joana Antunes is deeply involved in creative activities that encompass painting, drawing, illustration, and ceramic sculpture. Her art reflects fantastic imaginaries, where the narrative is supported by metaphors and personifications, enriched by an abundant mix of colors. This use of color intensifies both the meaning of her ideas and the introspective experience her works provide to the viewer.
Joana has already held numerous painting and sculpture exhibitions, both in Portugal and internationally, and her work is represented in international contemporary artist catalogs. In addition to painting, she is also dedicated to illustration and drawing, regularly participating in collective projects and book illustrations. All these artistic forms are connected by a coherent thread, allowing the viewer to confront an authentic and rich mythology of possibilities. For Joana, "Art is an alignment of what we feel with who we are."
