The painting titled "Mushroom Pickers" captures a vibrant autumn forest scene filled with life, light, and color. The composition showcases two figures with bicycles walking along a forest path, surrounded by lush, colorful foliage. The painting evokes a sense of tranquility and connection to nature, highlighting the simple joy of spending time outdoors and gathering the fruits of the forest. The figures in the painting are dressed in dark tones, providing a subtle contrast to the bright and vivid autumnal colors around them. They walk side by side, pushing their bicycles along a winding path, suggesting a leisurely journey through the forest. The figures appear relaxed and immersed in their surroundings, enjoying the peaceful atmosphere of the forest during mushroom season. The forest is painted with rich, textured brushstrokes, creating a dynamic and lively environment. The trees display a stunning palette of autumn colors, including golden yellows, deep oranges, fiery reds, and vibrant greens. The artist's use of bold, expressive colors reflects the warmth and beauty of the season, emphasizing the unique charm of nature during this time of year.In the foreground, a small pond reflects the surrounding trees and sky, adding depth and dimension to the scene. The water's surface captures the vibrant colors of the forest, creating a mirror-like effect that enhances the overall composition. The reflection symbolizes the harmony between nature and human activity, suggesting that the forest is a place of balance and peace. The light in the painting is soft and diffused, filtering through the trees and casting warm highlights on the ground. The interplay of light and shadow creates a sense of depth and movement, drawing the viewer's eye through the scene and inviting them to imagine the fresh, crisp air and the rustling of leaves underfoot.Through "Mushroom Pickers," the artist conveys a message about the importance of slowing down and reconnecting with nature. The painting celebrates the timeless tradition of mushroom picking, an activity that brings people closer to the land and allows them to experience the beauty and bounty of the natural world. The painting invites viewers to appreciate the simple pleasures of life — the joy of walking through a forest, the changing colors of the leaves, and the satisfaction of gathering mushrooms. It encourages a sense of mindfulness and appreciation for the world around us, reminding us to take time to enjoy nature's gifts.Ultimately, "Mushroom Pickers" is a celebration of nature, tradition, and the quiet moments of connection we experience when we immerse ourselves in the outdoors. The painting captures the essence of autumn's beauty, inviting viewers to pause, reflect, and appreciate the wonders of the natural world.

Boris Serdyuk, Mushroom Pickers
Ukraine  • 1960

Presentation

Born in 1960 in Konotop, Sumy Region, Ukraine.

1984 - Graduated from Yuriev-Polsky Pedagogical School (Department of Art and Graphics).

Worked as a drawing and drafting teacher, painting and wood carving instructor, artist-designer.

Held the position of Chief Artist in Konotop.

Since 2000 - Independent artist.

Member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine.

Works by Boris Serdyuk are held in museums in the Sumy and Chernihiv regions, as well as in private collections in Ukraine, European countries, the USA, Israel, and other countries.

In 2018, the artist entered the global art space of the creative platform in New York, where seven of his works were included in the catalog "Painting & Graphics."

Currently lives and works in Kremenchuk, Poltava Region.

Took his first steps in the world of visual arts within the walls of his local school, then studied at Yuriev-Polsky Pedagogical School. After graduation, he returned to his homeland and started working as a drawing and painting teacher.

Later, he realized that for an artist, creative freedom is essential. Thus, after seventeen years of teaching, he left the profession to focus on his creative work. The artist is content to have the opportunity to engage in his beloved craft, which he considers the meaning of his life.

His journey had its ups and downs, victories in competitions, and recognition from admirers, yet he never ceased his determined quest for his artistic path. In ancient times, "serdyuk" referred to professional infantrymen in the Cossack ranks. This heritage likely passed down not only the surname but also many Cossack traits to the artist, including hard work, modesty, and human dignity.

Boris Serdyuk creates in genres such as portrait, landscape, and thematic composition. His works are varied, reflecting the artist's impressions of the places he visited. Among them are picturesque corners of Kremenchuk and Dnipro views, urban and maritime landscapes, the grandeur of the Carpathian Mountains, and cozy Ukrainian villages. His canvases are intriguing in terms of color and relatively compositionally perfect, revealing the life of nature at the time of their execution.

There are also commissioned portraits and paintings, such as "Shevchenko in Baturyn." He spent over a year working on it, studying the architecture of the former hetman capital. However, the artist prefers to work swiftly, capturing the vision of a painting before it fades from his mind and before the sun changes its angle and shadows. On average, according to the artist, he spends about 40 minutes on a single landscape.

Boris successfully combines a poetic perception of the world and a deep understanding of nature with brilliant artistic execution. His paintings exude a special light and a delicate sense of nature – vivid colors on the canvas resonate with intermediate tones. The artist has abandoned contours, replacing them with separate and contrasting brushstrokes; his paintings amaze with colors, not only their diversity but also the amount of substance applied to the canvas – vibrant, vivid, voluminous.

Describing the master's works is a challenging task. Boris Serdyuk's works are special – they are painted with soul. One must see and feel the wonderful harmony of nature on the artist's canvases firsthand and touch the great mystery of Art.
