Presentation
Juana Sabina Ortega was born in 1987 in Mexico City, Mexico but her origins are rooted in the rural state of Hidalgo. She spent her childhood and adolescence in the Buena Vista district of Mexico City before taking the path of Fine Arts at the age of 17 at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). She received training in Visual Arts there and specialized in engraving, painting, drawing. Graduated in 2010, she undertakes a journey (which is the theme of her thesis) which will take her to cross the whole of the South American continent, leading an intense artistic activity: painting of murals, exhibitions in Mexico, Guatemala, in Costa Rica, Colombia and Ecuador. In 2015, at the end of this long journey, she went for the first time to Europe and then to Morocco, a country which deeply inspired her painting. She currently lives in France. The richness of Juana Sabina's work lies in her ability to capture the essence of the environment that surrounds her, and to express it through a subtle use of symbols. The theme of roots is omnipresent there, especially that of its own indigenous roots which appear repeatedly. In his painting, detail occupies a most important place, each painting conceals a surprising world in which what is small and sometimes hidden, is as meaningful as what is large and visible. Constantly evolving, his abundant work encompasses both very dark introspective representations and paintings overflowing with bright colors, always imbued with dreaminess. His work cannot be reduced to any artistic trend, any pre-established format, it is above all the fruit of the artist's absolute sincerity.
