Presentation
Roca studied at the Sabadell School of Arts and Crafts - where he had the opportunity to meet some masters such as Antoni Vila Arrufat or Joan Vilatobà - and at the Higher School of Fine Arts of Sant Jordi in Barcelona. Despite this, he was considered an eminently self-taught painter, equidistant from the various artistic movements of the 1950's and 60's.
Of the exhibitions carried out individually (in Castellar, Sabadell, Barcelona, Bilbao ...), many landscapes, portraits and figures stood out, following a pictorial tendency that could be described as post-Impressionist. At the same time, he participated in several group exhibitions around the state.
During the 50's and 60's, Raimon Roca was also intensely engaged in mural painting, especially in the decoration of religious buildings. Of particular note are the following works: in the Church of Sant Pere de Begur (egg temper on stucco), where he also designed the stained glass; on the main altar of the Church of Calella de Palafrugell (acrylic); on the high altar and the chapel of the Santísimo of the church of the Santísima Trinitat in Sabadell (latex-acrylic); on the altar of the Chapel of the Children's Hostel in Matadepera (oil and wax), where he also designed the stained glass; or in the chapel of the Hevia Palace, in Asturias (acrylic).
Last year, the municipality recognized its artistic trajectory with the organization of four simultaneous exhibitions that took place in the church of Sant Esteve de Castellar and in the Santi-Art, Watts-Art and Aguilart galleries. The initiative started from the three art rooms in the town, together with a commission formed by several citizens and relatives of the artist and with the support of the City Council. In addition, since 2010, the name of Raimon Roca has been named in one of the rooms in the El Mirador facility, which were named after Castilian painters.
