This triptych is composed of three paintings from a set of paintings named Atlas, which measure 130 x 97 cm each.
Atlas is a set of paintings that offers an allegory of the cosmos, showing side by side, minerals, vegetables, human bodies and a spectral dimension.
"By designating these different points in space, I imagine a topography of the universe ranging from the chasms of the earth to the galaxies and I propose a game of scale with space and time."
Concretio represents a red chasm illuminated in the center by a kind of white light. This glow resumes the peak shape of the Eikona set and dialogue with the other paintings in the serie evoking stellar space.
Photosynthesis is a vegetal radiography which shows an overlay of plants. By giving them some transparency, I wanted to focus on this fascinating process which enables them to synthesize solar energy (/power) into organic material. The luminous line crossing the canvas (/painting) as a cosmic ray is a metaphor about the link plants create between all the living things through their ability to produce oxygen.
By transforming the atmosphere, the first organisms which were able of photosynthesis made the earth planet livable : plants are the centre of our world.
The black background represents the cosmic space, the « black sun » writing referring to the link between plants, the sun and planet Earth, a symbiosis which allows plants to extract water and nutritive elements through their root system.
Eclipse presents a character in a mysterious and iconic way. The line that surrounds it is reminiscent of the halos of religious paintings, it is rather a ray "cosmic". The reference to the stellar space also passes through the deep blue of the painting that makes the luminous line vibrate. It is a way of transcending this body and situating it geographically throughout the cosmos.
