Nancy with cans, 2014 by Salvatore Arnone. From Paranoia series. Digital print on Hahnemuhle Photo Rag Ultra Smooth. Image size: 39.4 in. H x 27.5 in. W. Edition of 5 + 2AP More Editions & Sizes: Large: 50 in. H x 35 in. W.  Edition of 3 + 1AP Unframed

Paranoia is the first chapter of a larger body of work that explores some of the recurring themes of the artist’s production as disenchantment, melancholy and his own personal idea of beauty. Shots were collected between 2014 and 2021 in different occasions while working at his fashion editorials or traveling around the world and arranged (and often edited and post produced) only a few years later.

This striking artwork captures a unique fusion of fashion and recycling, featuring a woman adorned with a headpiece constructed from numerous aluminum cans. The cans, meticulously arranged, create a voluminous and avant-garde headdress. Wrapped in glossy black material, this elaborate structure contrasts starkly against the muted background, drawing the viewer’s attention to its bold ingenuity. The use of everyday objects, transformed into an artistic statement, challenges traditional notions of beauty and craftsmanship. The model's serene expression adds an element of grace, juxtaposing the industrial aesthetic with a sense of elegance. This piece stands as a commentary on consumer culture, recycling, and the potential for creative reinvention, making it both thought-provoking and visually compelling.

Presentation

The Italian artist Salvatore Arnone has lived and worked in Paris since 2014. After starting his career as an engineer, he turned to jewelry creation and worked for different brands around the world for nearly 10 years. . Despite this immersion in the creative field, at one point he felt the need to devote himself solely to photography and focus on his own vision.

In 2010 he was first published on Vanity Fair Italia and over the years his work has been featured in several magazines and exhibitions around the world. Starting at the age of 25, he began suffering from progressive hearing loss due to genetic cellular degeneration which required him to use hearing aids. The absence of meaning has profoundly affected his perception of the world around him and his social relationships, pushing him into a slow but constant process of self-isolation which is clearly visible in all his output.

His images mainly revolve around the search for a personal idea of beauty which often blends into sadness and silence, of harmony in chaos, of balance in imperfection which represent the leitmotif of the all of his work. The author is currently focusing on his personal work and is also experimenting with other media besides photography.
