Presentation
Lucien Clergue is a French photographer, born August 14, 1934 in Arles, died November 15, 2014 in Nîmes. He exhibited regularly in Paris since 1958. In 1961, he presented his work at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. In 1962 at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, at the Pavillon de Marsan of the Louvre Museum. In 1970, with the historian Jean-Maurice Rouquette and the writer Michel Tournier, Lucien Clergue founded the Rencontres Internationales de la Photographie which later became the Rencontres d'Arles.
His personal and collective exhibitions in France and abroad will be very numerous, of which here is a small selection.
Retrospectives were held in Los Angeles (Galerie Louis Stern Fine Arts), Seoul, Freiburg in Br., Tokyo in 2006.
Exhibitions in New York (Galerie John Stevenson) and Munich (Galerie Bernheimer) in 2005.
The city of Arles organized a retrospective covering the 54 years of Lucien Clergue's work at the Van Gogh space in Arles, exhibition at Galerie Patrice Trigano, Paris, at Galerie Louis Stern Fine Arts, West Hollywood, USA, in 2007.
