The piece is a combination of print and collage. The Snoopy House is wrapped with real fabric and wrapped in fine twine. An admirer of the extraordinary wrapping illustrations of Christo and Jeanne-Claude, Charles Schulz, the designer of Peanuts, paid tribute to the artists in a 1978 Peanuts comic by drawing the famous Snoopy doghouse wrapped in fabric.
Twenty-five years later, Christo paid him the compliment by designing the Wrapped Snoopy House, a life-size dog house made of tarpaulin, polyethylene and rope, and presenting it to Charles Schulz. As always with Christo, there was an accompanying graphic edition created as a collage with real fabric wrapping.
In Germany, packaging artist Christo Vladimiroff Javacheff made a name for himself with his Reichstag in Berlin in 1995. In France, it was the Pont-Neuf, which he wrapped in a golden silk sheet. In Paris, after 35 years, Christo seizes another building, the famous Arc de Triomphe. Christo had already planned the project in 1962 with his wife Jeanne-Claude. The Arc de Triomphe de l'Étoile was to be wrapped in 25,000 square meters of shimmering silver fabric. The project was never carried out. Presentation
Katherine Bernhardt (born 1975 in Clayton, Missouri) is an artist based in St. Louis, Missouri. Bernhardt received her MFA from the School of Visual Arts, New York, and her Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Illinois. Bernhardt is known for painting consumer symbols, tropical animals, and everyday objects over bright flat fields of color in an expressionistic and almost abstract style. Previous bodies of work include Moroccan rug-inspired paintings and collages made in collaborations with her former husband Youssef Jdia, as well as her model paintings, which were loose portraits based on images of supermodels from high fashion magazines.
