Artwork location: France

This artwork imposes a dynamic and tumultuous presence, capturing the very essence of energy in motion. Executed in a color palette dominated by earthy hues and touches of deep shadow, the artist creates a striking contrast that immediately draws the eye.

The bold use of swirling lines and abstract shapes engenders a sense of controlled chaos. These divergent elements seem to intersect and curl like bursts of life caught in full effervescence. Each brushstroke is decisive and instinctive, revealing a technique that combines power and subtlety.

The light and ethereal background amalgamated with translucent splashes of pale blue and gray, serves as a backdrop to this vibrant composition. This adds additional depth and dimension, emphasizing the spatial complexity of the scene depicted. The contrast between the fluid background and the harder, more defined lines in the foreground creates a captivating visual tension, reinforcing the impression of movement and liveliness.

The abstract figures seem to evoke human forms in motion, bodies caught in a frenetic dance. It is neither fixed nor static but seems to be in constant evolution. The artist thus captures not only a scene but a sensation, a raw and impetuous emotion.

Each element of this work is a testimony to the artist's talent for merging abstraction and expressionism, creating a piece that challenges and touches something primordial and universal in us. It is an invitation to dive into a whirlwind of artistic energy, to feel the rhythm of life that is agitated and to lose oneself in the beauty of a perpetual movement expressed through painting.

Mie Olise Kjærgaard, No Title 2
Denmark  • 1974

Presentation

Mie Olise Kjærgaard is a Danish contemporary artist, born in 1974. She is known for her paintings, sculptures, and installations that explore themes of architecture, abandonment, and forgotten places. Her work often focuses on abandoned structures, decaying buildings, and the transformation of urban or industrial spaces over time.

*Education* Mie Olise studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen, where she built a strong foundation in painting and sculpture. She later continued her studies at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London, earning a Master of Fine Arts in 2007.

*Work and Themes* Kjærgaard's work often draws inspiration from her interest in deserted places and concepts such as exploration, identity, and collective memory. Her travels to remote locations, like ghost towns in South America or abandoned settlements in Greenland, serve as a starting point for her artworks. She captures these environments and their histories in large-scale paintings and immersive installations, blending abstraction with representation. Her artistic style is characterized by bold brushstrokes, a raw color palette, and compositions that play with depth and space perception. Her pieces evoke unfinished stories and invite viewers to imagine the narratives behind these forsaken places.

*Exhibitions* Mie Olise Kjærgaard has exhibited her work internationally in galleries and museums, including Kunsthal Charlottenborg in Copenhagen, the Museo de Arte Acarigua Araure in Venezuela, and the Brooklyn Museum in New York. Her work is also included in several public and private collections.

*Awards and Residencies* She has received numerous awards and recognitions for her work and has participated in various artist residencies around the world, allowing her to enrich her art through cultural exchanges and new perspectives. Mie Olise continues to live and work between Copenhagen and New York.
