The "Virtual Watch Manufacture" project was originally imagined by the Monegasque artist Gilman as a digital creation inspired by Haute Horlogerie and luxury watch manufacturing, allowing the viewer to dive into the mechanical structure by revealing a view exploded view of the internal parts used by watchmakers to create mythical complicated watches.
The artistic touch was to show on a 360° movement the virtual sculpture floating in a space in zero gravity.
At the request of a collector to transform the project into a physical work of art, it took more than 12 months to create a real sculpture presented in 2021 by Gilman.
The main body and bracelet are cast in metal using the lost-wax technique, soldered, hand-polished and covered with palladium or gold plating, the smaller parts of the movement are hand-assembled and soldered one by one to the main structure. The 80 mm bezel is machined chrome or gold depending on the version.
Due to the large number of parts involved in the sculpture, many technical aspects had to be resolved to capture the spirit and fluidity of form of the original design.
This sculpture signed "Gilman 01/01" is chromed and delivered in its flightcase box.
