A System insider combines fear for one's safety and a jungle-like sense of self-reliance, a sense of impunity and a sense of helplessness. A writer, Fazil Iskander, came up with the following metaphor for the System skills: “Imagine that you had to share a room with an aggressive madman all your life. Moreover, you also had to play chess with him. On the one hand, you had to play so that you would not win and anger him with your victory; on the other, you had to play so subtly that he would not suspect that you allowed him to beat you."
The insiders become chronically dependent on the System but also become bitter about it, if not even biting the hand that feeds them. They are engaged in routine backbiting, backstabbing, double-crossing, two-step scheming etc. Their cynical reason masters the doublethink, double standards, double motive, and double utility.
