Presentation
Maria Makarova, born in 1989, is an artist whose work bridges the worlds of sculpture, painting, and abstract graphics. With a foundation in industrial design from her time at Stroganov Moscow State University of Arts and Industry, Maria's creative evolution has led her to explore deeper themes of physicality, personal boundaries, and the human form. Her approach to art is deeply emotional and introspective, aiming to create sculptural impressions of her experiences with living forms. She refers to her style as "sculptural impressionism," focusing on conveying the fluidity and fragility of the body and mind.
Maria returned to her artistic practice in 2019 after working as an architect and interior designer. Her art is a personal journey of healing and self-expression, where she explores themes of femininity, identity, and vulnerability. Through her sculptures and oil paintings, she captures the delicate balance between strength and fragility, using materials like soft plasticine to emphasize the vulnerability of the human body, especially in challenging times.
She has participated in numerous group exhibitions across Europe and Central Asia, including special projects at the Ural Industrial Biennale and international shows like Women United Art Prize. Her artistic philosophy extends to her teaching and work with children, believing that every person has an innate creative spirit waiting to be expressed.
Key Career Achievements:
Graduated from Stroganov Moscow State University of Arts and Industry with a degree in spatial design (2007-2013).
Longlisted for Women United ART PRIZE 2023.
Participated in the special project "Embrace and Cry" at the 6th Ural Industrial Biennale.
Featured in multiple group exhibitions, including "Feel Femme Force" in St. Petersburg and "Liberty Rubeeeeeeezh" in Kyrgyzstan.
Exhibited at ARTWEEKEND in Podgorica, Montenegro in December 2023.
