Cherry II is an elegant figurative bronze sculpture by Nando Kallweit.

This evocative bronze sculpture captures the serene grace of a figure in a lotus yoga pose, projecting a powerful sense of tranquility and balance. Kallweit skillfully crafts the elongated arms reaching skyward, forming an elegant prayer position that draws the viewer's eye upward, symbolizing spiritual ascent.

The minimalist detailing of the figure emphasizes fluidity and form, allowing the pose itself to convey a profound message of inner peace and stability. The patina of the bronze enhances the artwork's organic texture, creating an interplay of light and shadow that adds depth and vitality. Set against a stark backdrop, the sculpture’s simplicity speaks volumes, making it an arresting focal point that invites reflection and meditation. Its unique abstraction and timeless appeal embodies both physical and spiritual harmony.

Kallweit's work is modelled on modern youthful postures but with a nod to the importance of heritage through the stylised Egyptian-influenced head.

Cherry II was made using a lost wax, or Cire Perdue, bronze casting technique.  Nando shapes a wax model that is then submerged in ceramic. The ceramic is then placed in a furnace so that the wax melts to leave a cavity. Molten bronze is then poured into the cavity. Once cooled and hardened the ceramic is broken to retrieve the sculpture.  To create the rest of the edition Nando makes a silicon mould of the first piece allowing the wax model to be recreated.ceramic so that the wax melts and the mould is bone dry then pours his molten bronze into the cavity.

Presentation

German artist Nando Kallweit produces figurative sculptures and reliefs with aquiline and graceful appeal. After completing engineering school, Kallweit began a successful career as a freelance sculptor. His work has since become coveted for public installations and private collections alike.

Whether viewed in art exhibitions, large-scale installations, or the urban environment, his work is remarkably striking. The interplay between physical object, negative space, and observer creates emotions and enticing poetry that change depending on the context.

Kallweit is inspired by seemingly disparate cultures; the strength of ancient Egyptian sculptures, the dynamic forms of the modern Cubist movement, and an observation of our contemporary existence. Combined with a considerate approach, Kallweit renders archaic materials, such as blackened oak and bronze, with a palpable sensitivity. These forms are varied tirelessly in his creations. His elongated sculptures depict aspirational human figures in a proud stances that are aesthetically pleasing.

Close observation of each piece leads to the discovery of unexpected details in the design which convey an emotional robustness. Kallweit moves continuously while creating his sculptures. He works with an intensity and energy that he must balance with a sensitive and considerate approach.

Kallweit's work is permeated by a longing for the unknown, for the elusive, the divine, and the spiritual.
