Tom Hiscocks is a sculptor whose work explores themes of identity, perception, and the ever-changing nature of human experience. A defining moment in Hiscocks' career was his meeting with Her Majesty The Queen during the unveiling of his work at Valentine's Mansion, Ilford, as part of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee tour. This prestigious occasion underscored the significance of his artistic practice and the universal themes his work encapsulates.
Working primarily in copper and stainless steel, Hiscocks merges traditional craftsmanship with modern technology, including 3D scanning and laser cutting. His materials, both rich in history and fully recyclable, reflect his fascination with change and continuity.
With a background in horse racing and a First-Class Fine Art degree from The Cambridge Art School, Hiscocks has exhibited across the UK and Europe, with works held in collections worldwide. His sculptures invite viewers to explore the layers—both physical and emotional—that shape human experience.

Presentation
Tom Hiscocks graduated from Cambridge Art School in 2013 with a first class honours degree and that year was announced as the winner of The Dr Supanee Gazeley Fine Art Prize. His unique sculptures have since appeared in solo and shared exhibitions across Europe and as a result are now included in private and public collections on both sides of the Atlantic.
His work explores the layers of life and experience that, combined, make each of us who we are. We typically show the outside layer of our being; which, although it may bear some of the physical signs of our experiences, will never reveal our complete composition. A financial advisor, for instance, may also be an accomplished musician, a caring father and sufferer of low self-esteem – none of which would be immediately apparent upon initial observation.
Tom hand crafts each layer of his work individually, constructing his sculptures in such a way that each piece changes as the angle from which it is viewed is altered. There are times a particular work will seem almost transparent and suddenly completely solid as the viewer simply moves around it.
As a parallel journey to my art, I study practical philosophy and meditation, which provides its own insights to the exploration of being human and, as a result, my artworks. Importantly there is the idea of 'Atman', or 'our true being' which is not our body, mind nor emotions. It is the aspect of our 'being' that connects each of us with the universe. This is something that fascinates me, which I strive to explore during the production of each of my works.
