Cécile Plaisance's lenticular photography is part of her time and the global women's rights movement. Inspired by the great masters of photography - Avedon, Lindbergh, Newton or Toscani, among others - Cécile Plaisance uses lenticular printing to allow the viewer to dress or undress the models, real women, barbies, idealized beauties who are everywhere around us. But this time, the models, whether human or doll, have a way of looking directly into the camera, as if to claim their right to display their charms, to seduce, to please... it's that is, to live hedonistically, regardless of religion, the male gaze or cultural boundaries. A playful tribute to all women with Cécile's humor: it's an observation! As Cécile's photography progressed, she linked Barbie to today's women - while playing with her femininity, as the icon took on many lives while juggling her daily life as a wife, mother, friend and lover. She did what all women do and took full advantage of it: she flirted in her convertible, was sexy at the beach, was powerful as an executive in her own company, empowered, ageless and, in the end, alone as can be. being the beautiful women in life, she was no longer a Stepford wife. Cécile also added humor to the Barbie mix by targeting men who absolutely expect sex appeal in their wives, even while taking on daily responsibilities. Beyond the myth of woman as object, the artist elevates the idol of our collective childhood by supporting the challenges of today's women to defend their rights, their desires and their hard-won freedom. The nun's cloak and the burka of a veiled woman suggest that behind the external persona of one woman, another is hidden. From complex subtleties to bold statements, Cécile Plaisance's artistic eye has found them all. Despite the differences in culture, clothing and fashion, and the diversity of paths taken, women aspire to live their multifaceted lives fully and intensely and no Taliban can ever change that. By capturing the essence of all women in the perfect body of one, the artist has created a genre all her own while being accessible to all. She uses the technique of lenticular photography with superimposed images: Barbie seems to undress depending on the position of each person in front of the photo. What if God was a woman? “Fuck the rules” is a series of photos that ignores established precepts and instead offers an open perspective in which men and women accompany each other religiously, like complementary souls. Far from the mummified codes of religion, Cécile Plaisance invites us to a subtle and sensual freedom of the senses, where the woman is seen as a woman pope, exclusive mistress of her own decisions. In her latest series of black and white photographs, on paper, Cécile traveled to South Africa where she encountered elephants and big cats, photographing them alongside model Olga Kent. Accurately immersed in a nature that is unfortunately in danger, she wanders freely and in perfect harmony with the wild fauna.

Presentation

She is a 40-year old French artist who has built a feminine and original universe. She has always been passionate about photography. The artist she looks up to most is Helmut Newton, but she also draws inspiration from the work of Barbara Kruger, Richard Avedon, Mel Ramos and Russel James. Cécile starts a career in finance though, and she has very little time left for photography. It is when she moves to Brussels that she decides to dedicate to her passion. She has been working with light since three years, when she joined the Contraste agency. During her numerous trips, she studies nuances: the morning light in Senegal or by the Mediterranean, midday light in Miami or in Madagascar? but also the lights of Broadway at night. Inspired by her women friends and the desire to make fun of frivolous things, she creates a Barbie series. Barbie is to her a heroine that embodies the image of our time, today more than ever. It?s a journey in our imagination, but just a little bit offbeat?
