The indomitable landscape, the refuge of light, the incredible reality of the tangle of plants. Painting nature is the subject. The environment of the man, the place which is ours. The battle is engaged. To seek its language to speak about our fragile earth. To paint its beauty before it disappears, before we change it into a decor, a garden, a park, a sample, before we make a zoo for it. To make it as wild as a primary nature, to show the color, its luxuriance.
Joël Gangloff's work is built on reality, a mixture of memory and sensation taken from the field. The drawing composes the painting, then the shadows and the lights. A work of greyness on which he places the colors by successive layers of glaze. To seek the accuracy. The color is often above the real. To deconstruct. He creates imbalance through the choice of colors, from which is born a new look on which he recomposes. With the densification of the image, the abstraction appears.
Joël Gangloff incorporates perpective architecture, what he calls the trace of man. In his paintings, this trace appears in the form of repentance, sign, line, basin, wall. The past is buried. Other traces designate the perimeter of a future construction, architectural plans, houses. Projects of spaces to be cleared, pruned, cleared, dug. The present covers, destroys... The duality: to take the place or to leave it to nature. Things are there, unchanging. Man is only passing through, his undertakings are only ephemeral illusions.
Joël Gangloff's painting is not a naturalist painting, the plants are rhythms and forms, like a writing. Writing the sensation of reality.
Since 2004, he approaches creation with an attachment to the experimentation of the pictorial technique. After having practiced oil painting for ten years, he paints with acrylic, to which he adds pigments for its colored density. The craft of the painter's trade, the knowledge of the hand has always fascinated him. Attached to a certain classicism, the color represents the greatest part of his research, nourished by his past as a printer. Often calculated before being applied, it exists by the accuracy of its height and the depth of its glazes.
