Artwork location: France

This vibrant, contemporary floral painting titled Sunny Sunflowers by French artist Natalya Mougenot (born in Kazakhstan in 1981, and living in France for the past 20 years) is deeply inspired by the obsession with sunflowers famously portrayed by Vincent van Gogh. Mougenot's connection to Van Gogh's iconic sunflower series runs beyond admiration—it is a personal reflection of her fascination with the symbolism of the flower. Van Gogh's sunflowers, painted in vibrant yellows and golds, have long been associated with warmth, positivity, and the fleeting beauty of life. For Mougenot, the sunflower represents vitality, resilience, and the raw emotional power of nature, themes she channels into her own expressive work.

Renowned for her bold use of color and energetic brushstrokes, Mougenot's work fuses emotional depth with vibrant movement, creating pieces that resonate with both power and emotion. In Sunny Sunflowers, the sunflowers come alive in vivid hues of yellow and deep red, their warmth contrasting against a cool backdrop of blues and greens. Using an impasto technique, Mougenot's thick layers of paint give the flowers a tactile, almost sculptural presence. The sunflowers, arranged in a minimalist vase, seem to bloom from the canvas, their energy amplified by bold strokes of primary colors that add complexity to the composition. The result is a dynamic, expressive celebration of nature's vitality.

Mougenot's artistic style blends elements of expressionism, abstract art, art brut, and impressionism, marked by a highly personal and spontaneous approach. She works in one uninterrupted sitting, allowing her emotions to flow directly onto the canvas without revision. This immediacy infuses her paintings with authenticity and a sense of raw emotion.

Aligned with the "dopamine art" movement, Mougenot's works are designed to uplift and inspire, and Sunny Sunflowers is no exception. The painting's lively energy and vibrant colors invite the viewer to feel the intensity and motion of the sunflowers, as the artist's intuition guides the creative process. The piece is a celebration of the natural world, capturing the essence of summer flowers in full bloom.

Sunny Sunflowers was created by the artist in her studio in Lyon, France, in March 2025. Painted in acrylics on stretched cotton canvas, it is finished with a high-gloss varnish that enhances the luminous quality of the colors. Unframed but ready to hang, it is a striking addition to any space. The piece is signed on the back by the artist and will be signed once more before shipping. It also comes with a Certificate of Authenticity, ensuring its provenance.

As a one-of-a-kind original artwork, Sunny Sunflowers will be carefully packaged for international shipping from France to guarantee it arrives in perfect condition. This painting embodies Natalya Mougenot's dynamic expression and would be a captivating addition to any collection or interior.

Presentation

Natalya is a contemporary  french artist living in Lyon.

She was born and grew up in Kazakhstan, the country known for its spacious steppes.

She arrived in France 2003. Since that moment she loves her adoptive country.

She started painting in 2017 and used it as a therapeutic and emotional release during times of crisis. She incorporates this therapeutic approach in her artistic creative process till now.

In her artistic practice she refers to the terms of metamodernism,  which proposes to look at the world from the position of the inner adult.

As an artist and as a woman  she translates the experience of her personal search for balance based on harmony between mind, soul and body. This balance, in her opinion,  is the pillar for the inner adult.

Important components of her work are authenticity, soulfulness, sincerity, emotionality and honesty. She immerses the objects and the characters in the world where there is no falsity, rudeness, loneliness and indifference.

She works  rapidly  and is constantly sensitive  to the details.

Her artistic process is a fine balance between a pre-meditation and spontantainty which helps her to create her expressive  atmospheric artworks with a modern touch of impressionism by cultivating a naive art approach.
