Reinterpretation of the cover of the vinyl recrod entitled "Kaluyo Perez and his piano" by Bolivian musician Kaluyo Perez.
At the border of the Rocha River, in Parotani, the matter becomes like a Japanese print, surrounded by the attributes of the landscape and his beloved daisies and carnations. He got accustomed to the weather of the valleys, he cured himself from Uyuni´s cold weather, as did his piano´s wood. Photographic session under the shade of a molle tree. The cheaply printed vinyl cover could not hide his shyness, that entangled itself well with the landscape, as well as did the yellow typography.
“Kaluyo Perez" was the nickname given to Luis Perez Ramirez, a brilliant Bolivian musician, who recorded 12 long-play records in his lifetime and accompanied many celebrated Bolivian folklore artists; mainly at the piano, keyboard or accordion. Born in 1938 in the historic city of Uyuni, according to his childhood friends, he was a precocious musician. He found in the piano at his school, an instrument manufactured in 1726, the path that would lead him to a life in music. The first opportunity he had to appear on stage was in 1955 on the occasion of the inaugural concert of Uyuni´s Municipal Theather. Event for which many of the celebrities of Bolivian folklore music of the time had been invited. In 1967 he represented Uyuni at a festival sponsored by the Bolivian record company Lauro, in Cochabamba. Such was the impression that his playing had made on the jury, that Lauro offered him a contract by the end of the festival, to accompany at the piano and accordion the soloists and rising stars working for the firm.

Presentation
Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina in 1977, Julian Fourcade studied plastic and visual arts since he was a child, attending different institutions and ateliers, among others the Association for the Encouragement of Fine Arts, the National University Institute of Art, and the atelier of Patricio Larrambebere. He exhibited his works in Argentina at the J.L. Borges Cultural Center and at the Parakultural Center.
He resides in Cochabamba, Bolivia, since 2014, where he continued and completed his studies in fine art at the Superior Institute for Plastic Arts Raul G. Prada. He has participated of different exhibitions in Bolivia, among them the VII Contemporary Art Biennial “Contexts", which took place in 2019 at the Simon I. Patiño Cultural Center.
Fourcade´s work rescues often overlooked aspects of historic memory through painting and installation. He recalls objects, scenes, graphism and characters that the passage of time leaves trapped in an underlying layer in the shadows of “progress" or history. His approach is subtle, often taking as a starting point the typographies used in books and signs from past times.
