Catherine Casteres

From her childhood spent in the southwest of France, Anne-Catherine Casteres has retained a taste for painting. From an early age, she took refuge in creation. Palettes and brushes are becoming his favorite playmates. In adulthood, this passion continues to occupy him. She joined the Ecole du Louvre (Paris) for a theoretical training, and painted frantically in parallel. She is self-taught in her workshop where she advances step by step in her apprenticeship. In 1999, she decided to take the plunge and devote herself entirely to her creations. Anne-Catherine Casteres is fascinated by characters, attitudes and expressions. She enjoys studying human behavior and different positions. Bodies and faces become his favorite subjects. She treats shapes and contours freely, and deliberately carries out deformations to the point of caricature to give each character its own character. She mainly paints with oil paint, a medium that she appreciates for its smoothness and sensuality. The artist uses a few touches of oil pastel to emphasize the features. Her expressionist style is endowed with an explosion of colors that she uses to shape light and shadow. In 2009, she moved to Reunion Island and took advantage of the different shades of the island's landscapes. She finds in color a balance between excess and gentleness, madness and tenderness. Anne-Catherine Casteres feeds on moments of daily and artistic life (dance or music scenes). Back in the studio, she has fun creating stories. With mischief, she invents a context and places her characters as she pleases. The German Expressionist movement (20th century) and the painters associated with it (Klimt, De Van Dongen) inspire him. Their use of color is for her essential and a source of emotions in her work.
