Presentation

Philippe Ramette was born in 1961 in Auxerre. He currently lives and works in Paris.

Sculpture was the starting point of his career and lead him to a reflection that allowed him to project himself beyond reality as we conceive it. His sculptures also play an essential role in the conception of his photographs. Without any editing and retouching, only with the help of sculptural props, he puts himself in improbable and absurd situations. In these images, he defies gravity and even reason in order to correct human inadequacies and limitations.

Philippe Ramette challenges our imagination and invites us to envision new possibilities through his works that are both dreamlike and funny. He explores the memory of a past familiar to us, a common memory, in a sweet melancholic state.

His works are held in major public collections: the collection of the Maison Européenne de la Photographie, the Georges Pompidou Centre in Paris, the Musée d'Art Contemporain de Marseille, several FRACs and the MAC/VAL in Vitry-sur-Seine (close to Paris).
