Presentation

Michel Delmotte is a French ceramist artist born in 1942.

He studied at the School of Decorative Arts in Strasbourg in 1956 where he himself taught afterwards beginning in 1972, during 33 years. Teaching has occupied a prominent place in the artist's career, his teaching covers drawing, ceramics and painting.

Once he obtained his diploma of Decorative Arts he joined the ceramic workshop of Fréderic Watteel. In 1961 he opened his own studio in Strasbourg and then produced pottery with an utilitarian vocation. He imagined then a place that, besides being a place to create could host exhibitions. In 1964 this project was born and allowed him to exhibit his works for the first time.

In 1984, Michel Delmotte was appointed a member of the International Academy of Ceramics in Geneva. Never leaning on his achievements, he continued his research and went to work at the end of his career in glass techniques, from blow molding and engraving to thermoforming.

His works are now present in museums all over the world, starting with the Museum of Modern Art in Strasbourg, in Mulhouse as well as the FRAC Alsace Contemporary Art Space André Malraux in Colmar.
