Lili was born in Brazil and grew up in Honduras before moving to Southern Europe in 2003, traveling between Portugal, Spain, Italy and France. She has been living in Lyon for a few years and uprooting is at the origin of her creativity. In her paintings Lili speaks of the country of her childhood bruised by violence. She expresses it through bright colors, round and soft shapes which are as many nostalgic representations. Inspired by street art, a popular space for political and social expression, Lili learned her graphic freedom, visibility and language there.
The mouth, the eye, the feet, the red and white lines, the clouds, the Klein blue sky, the boats, the daisies are recurring and constitutive elements of a complex pictorial setting. This mouth, large, disproportionate, carmine red, present in all her creations, is her voice, the one she would dream of giving to all those who dare not speak. Each creation is a universe. It should be read in all its depth.
Lili speaks of her paintings as of a theater stage where shimmering stories are told but behind the curtain tragedies are played out behind the scenes. You have to go beyond the apparent innocence of your creations. Lili talks about corruption, deforestation, dictatorships, oppression, immigration, religion, sexuality is also a subject present in her creations, an unbridled and multi-form sexuality. Be attentive, do not let yourself be captivated by the Caribbean charm of his creations.
