Presentation

What characterizes Dominique Laude's painting is first and foremost the obsessive presence of the body. Stretched, fallen, tortured, torn, destructured, contorted, abandoned, lost in space, on the edge of metamorphosis, the body is the support and place of the confrontation between love and death. The artist's features are inspired by expressionism and the great classics, in their excessiveness. This is expressed in the way of upsetting the natural forms, of limiting the colors to shades of red, ocher, black and white, by disfiguring the faces expressing a certain painful delirium, abolishing all rules.

Dominique Laude confronts hallucination with sensitive perception, the instinctive revolt of the body with ordering reason. His figures become protean; a collection of kneadable, clay-like fragments, as volatile as ash. Within its body-supports in which elements clash and tear each other apart, the creative act is then akin to a bold attempt to snatch the individual from the abyss of the informal, from the chaos of the humanity.
