Josep Hurtuna

Josep Hurtuna Giralt (1913-1978)

Josep Hurtuna was a Catalan painter and engraver, also a master in the art of lithography.

He trained at the School of Fine Arts of San Jorge in Barcelona and was a disciple of Manuel Mensa Salas. In his first stage as a painter, Josep Hurtona cultivated the landscape and flowers with an impressionist concept of art, but after the 50s he began a new stage of abstract. During that era of schematic figuration, the artist shared concerns with European informalists and abstract American expressionists.

In the set of his work, Josep Hurtuna excels in his work as an engraver. He made outstanding collective and individual exhibitions throughout his career.
