Presentation

For more than 40 years, Julio Pacheco-Rivas has been creating abstract geometric paintings and assemblages, mainly in large format, dealing with the notion of urban spaces and utopias. Urban spaces through the representation of architectural elements or ordinary objects of which he only keeps the structure and which he places in multiple perspectives. Utopias through work on shadows and their projection in space, creating optical illusions.
The use of software allows him to play with volumes and to create depth effects. Laser cutting of metal, wood or plexiglas pieces allows him to accentuate his work on illusion by introducing a game between full and empty spaces, matter and absence of matter, reflection, shadow, silhouette…
The presentation of the objects is expressed through the outline of the form, like a silhouette, and not through the object itself. His rigorous geometric constructions, devoid of symbols, create memories of civilizations that seem to have lost their humanity. Nevertheless, his empty spaces evoke all that is human.
