The painting is available as a print in limited edition of 10. It is printed on archival quality, acid-free, 100% cotton 270 gsm paper with no optical brighteners. Pigments used in the printing process should have a color stability of more than 100 years. The print is signed and numbered on the front inside of the print border on the image itself.

This painting has been inspired by the Bible text: I am the door ; if any one enters by me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture. The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly. I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. (Jn 10:9-11)

David Wojkowicz

Czech Republic  • 1967

Due in no small part to my academic training my abstract paintings are mostly inspired by the Bible and biblical theology. The paintings are created on a computer using graphic vector software. However, nothing is generated automatically as I refuse to make use of any but the most basic of drawing tools within the software, preferring that every shape is painstakingly drawn by hand, which of course means it can take many days to complete a single work.

There is always some symbolism and mathematics behind every one of my images. The paintings themselves are made using a method that I invented and are the result of the blending of at least seven similar (or dissimilar) images.

Art, I believe, is all about seeing something uncommon in a common world, and then trying to share the art and its artistic ideas and visions with a public audience. Therefore, if an artist is really able to see something that others do not see and then have the ability to share that through their art, then it is possible that anyone may see even more than the artist himself/herself – this is real art, and on that basis a true artist is not necessarily the one who understands their art better than anybody else.
I don't provide explanations or a rationale for my paintings, as in my opinion, the goal of abstract art is to allow an audience to understand and appreciate paintings without the need for detailed explanations from the artist. However, to provide the reader with some background - in the case of my abstract paintings, I try to see something uncommon in well-known biblical texts but believe my paintings also have something to say about the real world.

All my paintings are available (until sold out) as prints in limited editions of 50. Paintings are printed on archival quality, acid-free, 100% cotton 270 or 300 gsm paper with no optical brighteners. Pigments used in the printing process should have a color stability of more than 100 years. The size of prints numbered 11-50 is 60x60 cm (24"x24") including a 1.5 cm (0.6") white margin. Numbers 1-10 are reserved for larger custom sizes up to 110x110 cm (43"x43").

My limited edition prints are signed and numbered on the front. The name of the image is in the bottom left corner, with serial number and total number of prints in the edition bottom center and finally signature and year of creation in the bottom right corner. Prints are intended to be framed without mounts – that is, there is no space between the frame and the image and therefore my signature is inside of the print border on the image itself.

Exhibitions:

Solo exhibition in a one of Prague (Czech Republic) churches, February-March 2018
Several group exhibitions around the world

Professional/Teaching Experience:

I studied theology at Charles University in Prague, Czech Republic.

Artistic Influences:

I do not think I am too affected or inspired by contemporary art. I am rather influenced by painters from the period before World War II: Piet Mondrian, Paul Klee, Theo van Doesburg etc.
