Presentation

Frederic Amat was born in 1952, in Barcelona, where he studied design and architecture by Fabià Puigserver. In the late 1970s he made several trips to Africa and North America, where he discovered his interest in the performing arts.

In the 70's he began his pictorial work with an experimental and conceptual style and design. Under the influence of Antoni Tàpies and Joan Miró, Amat uses colors in order to be very expressive, subjecting his canvases to a manipulation process in which he uses all kinds of techniques: collage, assemblage or varnish, among others. In 2005, he was commissioned to design the trophy that credits the winners of the Terenci Moix International Awards, making for the occasion a clayfish with the seal of the prize surrounded by a silkscreen.

In 2007, he was awarded the National Prize for Visual Arts of Catalonia from the Generalitat, in recognition of the exhibition held at the Carles Taché Gallery, where he collected the whole of his work: paintings, sculptures and multimedia montages. The same year, he decorated the entrance hall to the library of the Ateneo Barcelonés with the mural "La Porta dels lectors" (The door of the readers).
