Presentation
Hélène Delprat was born in 1957 in Amiens.
A graduate of Fine Arts in Paris, she passed the competition for the French Academy in Rome in 1982 and went to work for two years at the Villa Medici where she presented her first anonymous exhibition entitled Jungles and Wolves.
In 2014, she was appointed professor of drawing at the Beaux-Arts de Paris.
Between 1985 and 1995, she was represented by the Maeght gallery. Wanting to experiment with new mediums such as photography or video, she left the gallery in 1995.
From the 1990s, Hélène Delprat abandoned painting to explore video, radio or theatre. She approaches literature, cinema with performance, installation and sculpture. She isolates herself in her studio and makes short films. She also creates costumes and sets for theater and dance. She begins a series of true-false interviews for the radio where she mixes fiction and documentary.
In 2004, she opened a blog entitled “Days, do something a day”.
In 2010 she met the gallery owners Christophe and Nathalie Gaillard. Their collaboration began with an exhibition in 2012 entitled Enfin avec l'extension du pire, which revolves around the video Les (Fausses) Conférences. In 2014, his second personal exhibition Fair is foul and foul is fair marked the great comeback of his painting. She then continued her work as a videographer with Nicole Stephane, a displaced person, which she adapted for a Creation on Air on France Culture.
She is represented by the Carlier Gebauer gallery in Berlin.
In 2017, I did it My Way at La Maison Rouge in Paris is a retrospective of his work from the 1990s.
In 2018, the Caen Museum of Fine Arts devotes an exhibition to him.
