Presentation

FRANK FLUEGEL GALERIE is proud to present Art Basel 2026 Qatar – Edition | Curated Show, a special exhibition staged in parallel with the inaugural Art Basel Qatar. Taking place at the gallery’s Nürnberg space, this curated presentation brings together a distinguished selection of original works by internationally celebrated artists Alex Katz, Andy Warhol, Hunt Slonem, Orit Fuchs, and David Gerstein. Coinciding with one of the most anticipated new chapters in the global art calendar, the exhibition reflects a dynamic dialogue between iconic contemporary positions and the international spirit of Art Basel, offering collectors and visitors an exceptional artistic experience during this landmark moment.

Founded in 1970, Art Basel is widely regarded as the world’s leading art fair organization, renowned for its rigorous curatorial standards and its role in shaping the international contemporary art market. Each Art Basel fair is defined by its host city, reflecting both a global perspective and strong local cultural engagement.

Art Basel Basel, the original and flagship fair in Switzerland, remains a cornerstone of the international art calendar, bringing together the most influential galleries, artists, collectors, and institutions each June. Art Basel Miami Beach, launched in 2002, has become a vital bridge between North America, Latin America, and Europe, known for its dynamic programming and strong presence of modern and contemporary masterpieces.

Since 2022, Art Basel Paris has further expanded the organization’s European footprint, positioning itself at the heart of one of the world’s most historic cultural capitals and fostering dialogue between established and emerging artistic voices. With the introduction of Art Basel Qatar in 2026, Art Basel enters the Middle East for the first time, marking a significant milestone and underscoring the region’s growing importance in the global art ecosystem.

Across all its locations, Art Basel is committed to excellence, innovation, and cultural exchange—creating platforms that not only present exceptional artworks, but also connect international communities and shape the future of contemporary art.

The works, entitled “White Lilies,” are now available at FRANK FLUEGEL GALERIE in Nuremberg and Kitzbühel. In “White Lilies,” the two flowers converge in the center of the etching, forming a single, intertwined shape. Katz recognizes that his latest flower paintings differ from his earlier depictions of this motif, saying, “They are more voluminous. They are more sculptural. Ultimately, they look as if they are blowing in the wind.” Katz's flowers appear like cinematic close-ups and convey an impressive sense of immediacy. He typically works en plein air to create painted studies, which are then enlarged and transferred to monumental canvases in his studio. Using a “wet-on-wet” technique, in which paint is applied without allowing previous layers to dry, he works quickly to capture his impression of the scene. This method of painting is “Katz's way of staying true to the shock of the original perception,” says poet and critic John Yau. “His subject is the presence of seeing, not something remembered at leisure.”Besides the Lilies Portfolio for sure there are also Alex Katz Portraits like Halsey, Vivien, Olivia or Straw Hat on display. The rapidly growing street art segment is perfectly complemented by successful artists such as Mr. Brainwash (Thierry Guetta), XOOOOX, Punk Me Tender, Fringe the Artist, Max Mavior, and John Crash Matos. So the gallery has the most sought after Mr. Brainwash unique mixed media artwork Balloon Girl
