Between Reality and Imagination - Worlds Within

Romny From March 6, 2026 to March 14, 2026

Presentation

The exhibition brings together a selection of works by Ukrainian artist Anatoliy Tarabanov, whose paintings unfold as complex visual narratives where symbolism, surrealist imagery, and elements of decorative modernism converge. Tarabanov’s artistic language is both refined and deeply personal, creating a world in which reality and imagination coexist in a delicate, poetic balance.

Across his compositions, familiar objects—seashells, fruit, musical instruments, fish, fragments of architecture, and contemplative human figures—appear not merely as subjects but as carriers of symbolic meaning. These motifs emerge within carefully structured pictorial spaces that evoke memory, dream, and inner reflection. Through subtle juxtapositions and layered imagery, the artist constructs compositions that invite the viewer to move between the visible and the imagined.

Central to Tarabanov’s practice is his distinctive multilayered painting technique, through which the surface of the canvas becomes a site of gradual revelation. Transparent glazes, textured passages, and collage-like structural elements interact to produce depth, luminosity, and a sense of temporal accumulation. Each layer contributes to a complex visual rhythm, allowing forms to appear, dissolve, and re-emerge within the composition.

Tarabanov’s work demonstrates a remarkable command of color, texture, and compositional balance. His paintings reveal an undeniable mastery of painterly technique, where classical craftsmanship meets contemporary sensibility. The artist’s signature style—recognizable in its sophisticated layering of imagery and symbolic resonance—establishes his works as distinctive contributions to contemporary Ukrainian painting.

The exhibition offers viewers an opportunity to engage with an artistic vision in which form, symbol, and material merge into a unified visual language. Tarabanov’s canvases open spaces of contemplation, where layered images and textures evoke the fragile boundaries between memory, imagination, and lived experience.
