Biography

Born in 1983 in France, Julien Des Monstiers studied at the renowned Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris where he trained under Jean-Michel Alberola.

Julien is a young artist, who despite his age, is widely acknowledged among the Parisian artistic scene. He is also the winner of painting prize Antoine Marin in 2015.

Julien plays around with colours, textures, concepts and a forgotten artistic savoir faire, in the hope of placing art in a place where it had once been.

He pushes the boundaries between fine and applied art and had radicalised his approach in recent years, focusing on the concept of tautology in painting.

His paintings are by nature two-dimensional, but the artist nonetheless seeks to illustrate depth, layers, textures, and folds.

Julien des Monstiers's work was featured in several exhibitions at key galleries and museums, including the Galerie Christophe Gaillard.

He now lives and works in Paris.
