Ayman Essa

Ayman Essa is a Palestinian artist whose practice centres on the human figure, particularly representations of women. His distinctive visual language combines vivid colour, expressive line, elongated forms, and patterned surfaces, creating figures that appear simultaneously intimate, monumental, and dreamlike. Blue is particularly prominent within his work, where it becomes both a formal element and an atmospheric device, creating a sense of contemplation, mystery, and emotional depth.

Essa was born in Gaza City in 1974. He earned a Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts at Al-Najah National University in Nablus in 1999, and a Master's degree in Fine Arts at University of Helwan in Egypt in 2011. Throughout the years, Essa participated in several solo and group exhibitions with artwork that moves beyond conventional portraiture to explore identity, beauty, femininity, and the emotional experience of the individual. Essa has developed a recognisable contribution to contemporary Palestinian painting, balancing personal expression with broader questions of identity and belonging. The artist currently lives and works in Paris, France, where he continues to develop his artistic practice.
