Biography

Abed Abdi is a Palestinian visual artist whose work explores displacement, memory, identity, resistance, and the social and political history of Palestinian life. Working across painting, drawing, printmaking, graphic design, sculpture, and murals, he combines figurative and expressive forms to document experiences of exile, loss, labour, and attachment to place. His practice views art as a means of preserving collective memory and affirming Palestinian cultural identity.

Born in Haifa in 1942, Abdi was displaced with his family during the Nakba before returning to Haifa. He studied painting and sculpture in Haifa and later studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Dresden, Germany, specialising in mural and graphic art. Since returning to Haifa in the 1970s, he has worked as an artist, graphic designer, illustrator, and educator, participating in numerous exhibitions and producing murals and public artworks in Palestine and internationally. Abdi lives and works in Haifa, where he continues his artistic and educational practice.
