Biography

ADAM SCOTT ROTE (1965 - ): Adam Scott Rote is an American realist painter known for highly detailed, hyper-realistic works inspired by Hollywood, classic cinema, fashion, music, wildlife, and American popular culture. Born in 1965, Rote developed his technique through years of apprenticeships in portraiture, realism, airbrushing, sculpture, and sign painting rather than through a conventional academic art program. He combines acrylic, gouache, watercolor pencil, airbrush, and eraser techniques, building his paintings through numerous transparent layers in a labor-intensive process that can take months to complete. His career began gaining significant attention with his series in 2004, after which his subject matter expanded to include Hollywood and musical icons and noir-inspired portraits. Since 2008, Rote has collaborated with numerous legendary actors and entertainers, frequently incorporating their signatures or other historical elements into his works. He has also incorporated metal salvaged from the original Hollywood Sign into selected paintings and editions. His work has been featured in books, magazines, film, and television and is held in private collections internationally.
