Description
The Lady With The Pangolin
Created during the Covid-19 pandemic, this work by Leonardo da Vinci revisits his famous portrait by transposing it into a world disrupted by the health crisis.
The ermine is replaced by a pangolin, an animal that has become one of the symbols surrounding the origins of the pandemic. The lady wears a protective mask, while her gaze remains expressive, almost enigmatic.
Around this central figure, a multitude of characters, signs, and inscriptions evoke confinement, barrier gestures, fear, but also hope, solidarity, and the need to preserve human connections.
The bold colors, the black outlines, and the geometric blocks contrast a vital energy with the anxiety of this period.
Through this reinterpretation of a Renaissance masterpiece, Michèle Ansermet Papadopoulos makes art history dialogue with contemporary reality. The work is inscribed in its pictorial language, CHROMATISME, where figures, colors, and writings participate in a single narrative.
An artistic testimony to an exceptional time, between collective memory, humor, worry, and resistance.
The work is sent rolled in a protective tube
Presentation
Michèle Ansermet Papadopoulos is a Franco-Swiss and Cypriot visual artist who spends her time between Paris and Paphos. Graduated in ceramics, trained at the Charpentier Academy and then at the National School of Decorative Arts of Paris, she also attended the Académie de Port-Royal and the Beaux-Arts workshops of Paris-Glacière.
After a twenty-five-year interruption for personal reasons, she resumed her artistic practice in 2007. Her work, based on the primacy of drawing, the power of color, and narration, gives birth to Chromatisme, a visually immediately identifiable language: structuring black lines, flat color areas, interwoven figures, signs, and fragments of texts compose works of great energy.
Her career is marked by several solo exhibitions in France, Cyprus, and Switzerland, as well as numerous group exhibitions in the United Kingdom, Belgium, China, and Japan. She regularly participates in the Autumn Salon and Art Capital at the Grand Palais in Paris.
Laureate of the Autumn Salon Prize and the Christiane Peugeot Prize in 2016, she is the creator and president of the CHROMATICS section of the Autumn Salon. She has also been the curator of several international exhibitions, notably within the framework of Paphos, European Capital of Culture in 2017.
From 2019 to 2024, she collaborates with the Haviland house on porcelain creations. Since 2025, she is developing an important artistic collaboration with the Atomic Heart video game universe, giving birth to monumental paintings, sculptures, and various international projects. In 2026, her work The Code Keepers is selected as a finalist for the cl'Arte Laguna Prize in Venice.
Through a free, vibrant, and engaged work, Michèle Ansermet Papadopoulos transforms world events, intimate experience, and contemporary imagination into visual narratives where color remains a force of resistance, memory, and life.
