Description
A blue silhouette stops in a barren landscape. This pickup, the center of the composition, seems frozen between two worlds. The artist uses acrylic to superimpose layers of earthy and mineral colors.
The sky, a dense turquoise blue, weighs on the horizon. A massive white block dominates the background, evoking an architectural remnant or a fragment of memory. The lines are stark, almost raw.
The visual narrative here explores the notions of movement and belonging. The vehicle becomes the symbol of a departure or a waiting. Each brushstroke emphasizes the fragility of the places and the persistence of memory.
The contrast between the bright blue of the truck and the ochre tones of the ground creates a chromatic tension. The composition plays on the balance between abstraction and figuration.
This painting, created in 2024, transforms a fragment of daily life into a poetic reflection on distance. The image ends on a textured ground where the traces of passage fade away.
Presentation
Mohammed Joha is a Palestinian multidisciplinary artist whose practice encompasses painting, drawing, collage, installation, photography, and video. Working with materials such as paper, cardboard, fabric, and found objects, he creates layered compositions that combine abstraction with personal narratives. His work is shaped by memories of Gaza and his experience of living between Palestine and France, exploring themes of distance, displacement, belonging, and the changing relationship to place.
Born in Gaza in 1978, Joha received his bachelor’s degree from Al-Aqsa University in Gaza in 2003. He has since received several awards and participated in international artist residencies, contributing to the development of his artistic practice. Rather than directly documenting political events, Joha transforms fragments of everyday life into poetic reflections on loss, resilience, and memory. His recent paintings and collages respond to the devastation and displacement experienced in Gaza, where the process of assembling and reconstructing materials becomes a way of reflecting on rebuilding and renewal. The artist currently lives and works in Marseille, France, where he continues to develop his artistic practice.
