Cypresses. Crimea, 2008

Viktor Dembytskyi

A picturesque post-impressionist landscape that conveys the intimate and sunny atmosphere of the southern landscape.
The main element of the work is a group of majestic dark cypresses. They are elongated vertically and dynamically directed upwards, acting as powerful color and compositional accents.
In the foreground, a winding dirt path is depicted, which goes around the trees and leads the viewer's gaze deep into space. The earth and grass are conveyed by a complex palette of ocher, golden, pale pink and green shades.
In the background, the silhouettes of the mountains are softly visible, melting in a light haze, creating a feeling of space and depth.
The painting is built on the contrast between the deep, rich emerald-coniferous shades of the cypresses and the warm, muted background. The sky and air are filled with soft pink, cream and pearly gray tones, which is typical of the evening lighting.
The work is made in the impasto technique (impasto) on linen canvas pasted on fiberboard. The artist applies paint with thick, textured and bold strokes. The strokes clearly visualize the movement of the brush and palette knife, creating a three-dimensional, almost tactile surface that "lives" and vibrates under the influence of light.
The painting masterfully conveys the state of nature, its warmth, light movement of air and southern aesthetics through the emotional perception of color and form.
