Description
CHROMATIC MAJESTY — A PARROT IN THE LIGHT
Azhar Mehmood · 2023
Acrylic on canvas · 60.96 × 45.72 cm
Unique original artwork
A brightly coloured parrot rests on a diagonal branch, surrounded by a flowing atmosphere of blue, turquoise and warm light.
Azhar Mehmood gives the bird a composed, attentive presence. Its turned head reveals a pale face traced with dark markings, while the curved beak introduces a strong contour against the lighter background.
Across the body, crimson and orange meet green, yellow and deep blue. Individual strokes suggest the overlapping structure of feathers, creating a varied surface that invites closer observation.
The branch gives the composition its principal diagonal. Small leaves and fine twigs extend around the bird, balancing its substantial form with more delicate details.
Behind this closely described subject, the background becomes freer. Long passages of colour suggest vegetation and filtered light, allowing the eye to move between the bird’s defined features and the atmosphere surrounding it.
reflects Mehmood’s interest in the expressive possibilities of nature painting. Its vitality comes from the relationship between a still subject and an animated field of colour.

Presentation
Azhar Mehmood is a Pakistani visual artist working across hyperrealistic portraiture, pencil drawing, landscape painting and Arabic calligraphy. He began making art in childhood and has developed his practice over fourteen years.
His artistic interests centre on human expression, nature and cultural heritage. Through portraiture and drawing, he explores the descriptive possibilities of line, tone and closely observed detail. His landscapes provide a complementary space for engaging with natural forms and atmosphere.
In his Arabic calligraphy, Mehmood brings written language into dialogue with visual structure. Faith and spirituality inform this aspect of his practice, alongside an appreciation of the ornamental and compositional traditions of Islamic art.
Mehmood is also developing a body of abstract work, expanding his approach towards more intuitive expressions of emotion and responses to nature. His practice continues to evolve through the exchange between representational precision, calligraphic form and creative experimentation.
