Information on the creative process
The idea was to highlight the phrase by Paul Valéry: "We enter the future in retreat." For it to be understood, its logic had to be pushed to the extreme. Our brain understands that the future is ahead of it, but the body cannot resolve to uncertainty, especially when it is tired. This is the case of French society, aged and melancholic, ready to yield to the sirens of the past, its ideal is behind it, it is under gerontocratic domination. The future can only be carried by the youth. We are facing a problem that seems insoluble, except for them, and they will soon take charge of making us understand it. Paul Valéry is the incarnation of the transition from a 19th-century romantic and monarchical to a 20th-century rational and republican century. – Christopher Dombres
